Concrete Driveways In The Summer

21 Jul 2021

Over the years we have seen many mishaps when it comes to the sun beating down on driveways. From inappropriate materials used, to drying too quickly due to the heat. So how is Cobblecrete different, and how will it fare in the 30-degree heat that we now see here in the UK.

Not So Solid

With temperatures in the UK rising we are seeing more and more issues where driveways are becoming soft in the heat. This is usually where the material used hasn’t been allowed time to set, or has been created using incorrect proportions of its mixture. Sadly this means that some cars are getting bogged down on their own driveway and causing issues for the homeowner.
It’s not only driveways that this has happened on. Roads that are being tarmacked in this heat are also causing issues for road users as they are taking tarmac with them as they drive.
It is important to know that the majority of materials will require more time to dry in the heat than they normally do. On the opposite to this, concrete that is laid in the blazing heat can dry too quickly causing it to crack or become misshapen.

Cobblecrete In The Sun

Here at Cobblecrete, we have been laying our driveways in Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas for over 25 years. And to date, we have not had any issues with our driveways in the heat. This is both freshly laid driveways and existing driveways.
The materials that we use have been specifically engineered to ensure that they can be laid at any time of year and will not be impacted by the heat in the years to come.

Crack Prevention

Concrete is well known for cracking over time. To help prevent this from happening the team at Cobbcrete make adjustments to your driveway. This means that we use a diamond blade to cut crack prevention lines into the hardened surface. We then fill these in with coloured silicone. This means that the movement of the concrete over time or in the changing weather conditions will not cause pressure cracks.
