Why Do I Need To Reseal My Driveway?

21 Jun 2021

Cobblecrete driveways are considered long-lasting and hardwearing driveways (and patios). However, to ensure that they can maintain both their appearance and hardiness, they will require regular maintenance by way of resealing. So how important is it to get your driveway resealed?

Colour Retaining

Over time the sun has a drastic effect on many things. From fabrics to outdoor woodwork, paint and even patios, the sun can bleach the colour out of many things. This can also include your Cobblecrete driveway.
Regular resealing of your driveway adds the top layer of protection back onto your driveway. This protective layer helps to combat the effects that the sun has on your driveway, thus retaining the vivid colour that you should see.

Extra Protection

Over time the initial seal on your driveway will start to wear away. This protective seal helps to seal otherwise porous concrete. When your concrete becomes porous it is open to a number of stains, such as oil or watermarks. Once oil penetrates your driveway it is almost impossible to remove. The best way to combat this is to take preventative action rather than reactive. So, if you have a car parked up that has the potential for an oil leak, keep on top of your maintenance!

How Often Do I Reseal?

We typically recommend having your driveway or patio resealed every 3 to 5 years. However, this can be impacted by a number of different factors. The more that the space is used, for example, a driveway with multiple cars on, the more often you will need to consider resealing. If you have a patio, which gets less use, you may wish to leave it for longer (there is also less risk of staining on your patio).
The effects of the weather on your Cobblecrete will also have an impact. The more sun exposure you have, the more likely you are to need to reseal sooner. If you are unsure, speak to our team when they install your driveway as they will be able to assess where the suns impact is in relation to the space.
